Going on a Power Trip

Thrash Metal, Meant to Be

Power Trip was a thrash metal band formed in 2008 in Dallas, Texas. The band was known for their aggressive, high-energy live performances and their blend of thrash metal, hardcore punk, and crossover thrash. The band's lineup consisted of vocalist Riley Gale, guitarists Blake Ibanez and Nick Stewart, bassist Chris Whetzel, and drummer Chris Ulsh.

Power Trip released their debut EP “Armageddon Blues” in 2009 and followed it with their first full-length called "Manifest Decimation" in 2013. The album received critical acclaim and helped the band gain a following in the underground metal scene. They released their second album "Nightmare Logic" in 2017, which further solidified their reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative bands in the thrash metal space as a whole.

Old-School and New-School Combined

Power Trip fused the old-school staples of thrash and its crossover variants with cutting-edge production and contemporary songwriting. The result was a high-octane brand of approachable thrash metal that appealed just as much to punk and hardcore kids as it did the metalheads. The sound was both familiar yet new, a difficult feat to achieve in a subgenre of metal known for its tropes.

Sadness and its Wake

Tragically, Riley Gale passed away on August 24, 2020, at the age of 34. His death was a shock to the metal community, and it led to an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow musicians from across all spaces. The band did reunite for a show in 2023, however there were complications surrounding Gale’s family and what they had originally intended with his legacy.
